A 4.0 l (3,954 cc, 241.30 cu.in) natural aspirated V6 60° 4-stroke gasoline engine from the Nissan VQ-family is known as the Nissan Vq40de engine. The Decherd Powertrain Plant is where the engine is produced (Tennessee, USA).
The 4-liter VQ40DE engine has evolved into one of the most powerful and dependable Nissan VQ gasoline engines available. This is a bigger version of the VQ35DE, whose volume was increased as a result of the cylinders’ size and piston stroke. The device was identical to its predecessor in every other way, including the use of an aluminum cylinder block, two aluminum DOHC heads, a CVTCS phase regulator on the intake, and a timing chain drive. There are no hydraulic lifters, therefore valve clearances must be changed every 100,000 kilometers.
Since its debut in the USA in 2005, the power unit, which was created for SUVs, has been installed in the largest Nissan vehicles as well as the Suzuki Equator up until 2013. It has an exquisite resource, which is unique in today’s world of disposability, the absence of issues, and enormous tuning possibilities.
The Pathfinder SUV, as well as the pickup truck and minibus built on its foundation, all feature the 4.0-liter V6 Nissan VQ40DE engine (also known as the VQ40 for short).
On what the engine was mounted:
Nissan Patrol 6 (Y62) in 2017 to…, Nissan Xterra 2 (N50) in 2005 to 2015, Suzuki Equator 1 (D40) in 2008 to 2012, Nissan Frontier 2 (D40) in 2004 to 2021, Nissan Pathfinder 3 (R51) in 2004 to 2014, Nissan Patrol 6 (Y62) in 2017 to…
Nissan Vq40de engine V6 Engine Problems
The 2005 Frontier, Xterra, and Pathfinder introduced the Nissan Vq40de engine, a 4.0L V6 engine. It provides reliable 281-288 lb-ft of torque and 261-275 horsepower. Additionally, VQ40 engines provide a strong blend of dependability and fuel efficiency. However, no engine is flawless, and the Nissan 4.0 engine is no exception. In this manual, we go over a few typical Nissan VQ40DE engine issues as well as reliability, specifications, and more.
These specifications are typical for a contemporary V6 engine. The 4.0L displacement is however quite large for a V6 engine. Anyway, the aluminum construction of the Vq40de engine helps to reduce weight, and the DOHC enhances power and performance.
The majority of vehicles come with 261 horsepower, including the VQ40DE 4.0L Nissan Frontier, Pathfinder, and Xterra. By today’s standards, it might not be much for a big 4.0 V6 engine. However, given that the engines were released in 2005, that is still a decent output.
The Vq40de engine has two aluminum heads with two camshafts (DOHC) and four valves per cylinder in addition to a lightweight aluminum block with a completely balanced four-bearing crankshaft. A variable intake system, CVTC system on the intake side, NDIS (Nissan Direct Ignition System) with individual coils on each platinum-tipped spark plug, and multi-point fuel injection are all included in the Nissan VQ40DE engine.
The 4.0 V6 engine is created by taking the VQ35DE and enlarging the bore and stroke. It features light camshafts, variable intake, VVT, and a unique molybolenium coating on the pistons.
