As the replacement engine for the Mercedes-Benz SLK 350 R171, this engine debuted in 2004. The latest generation of V6 Mercedes engines is the M272 series. The former M112 E32 and M112 E37 engines were replaced by the new 3.5-liter engine.
The M272 engine E 35 engine, which was slated to replace the M112 E32 and M112 E37, represented the progression of the Mercedes V6. The lineup now comprises the 2.5-liter M272 E25 and the 3.0-liter M272 E30 in addition to the 3.5-liter engine. The M112 was used as a model for the development of the 272 series since it features an aluminum BC with a 90 degree camber and 106 mm between the cylinders. piston liners made of 92.6 mm-diameter silumin steel. And 86 mm of travel was added to the new crankshaft. The forged connecting rods and pistons are a little bit lighter.
The M272 engine was modeled after the M112 engine. Light pistons, forged steel connecting rods, and an aluminum cylinder block with a 90-degree angle are all included. 106 mm separates the cylinders from one another. Additionally, the M272 engine’s engine block contains a balancer shaft. The engine includes aluminum cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder and two overhead camshafts (DOHC). The diameter of the exhaust valve is 30 mm, compared to 39.5 mm for the intake valve.
A V6 piston engine family used in automobiles in the 2000s is the Mercedes-Benz M272 engine (decade). It was released in 2004 and is based on the M112 V6 that was released in 1998.
All M272 engines have silicon/aluminum walled cylinders and aluminum engine blocks with a 90° vee angle. There are four valves per cylinder in the aluminum DOHC cylinder heads. On the 3.5 L V6, direct injection is employed sparingly whereas other engines use traditional port fuel injection. All have magnesium intake manifolds, one-piece cast crankshafts, iron-coated aluminum pistons, and forged steel connecting rods. In order to address vibrations in the 90 degree V6 design, a balance shaft is inserted in the engine block between the cylinder banks, similar to the M112 design. In essence, this nullifies first and second order
The M272 engine is a six-cylinder, V-shaped petrol engine made by Mercedes-Benz. Most Mercedes-Benz passenger car models have provided it as a naturally aspirated engine with classic intake manifold injection since 2004, when the new SLK-Class (R 171 series) was introduced; since 2006, in the CLS-Class (C 219 series), also with direct injection (CGI ). The engine type shares similarities with the M 273’s V8 gasoline engine, which was developed at the same period. Because of this, the M 272 also has a cylinder bank angle of 90 degrees, which is unusual for six-cylinder V engines and necessitates the use of a second balancing shaft.
