The 4D56 is a member of the “Astron” engine family, which debuted in the 1980 Mitsubishi Galant. Owners of SUVs and light commercial vehicles have developed a sizable following and support base for the long-used engine, which has undergone numerous updates and adjustments.
The 4D56 16 Valve is the final model of this engine offered for sale in Europe. It has a 16-valve, common rail, twin-cam design that makes it cleaner and more effective than prior models.
Between 1986 and 2016, the company produced the 2.5-liter Mitsubishi 4d56 turbo engine, which was used in the Pajero and Pajero Sport SUVs, L200 pickup trucks, and Delica minibuses. The well-known Hyundai D4BA, D4BF, and D4BH diesel engines are based on this power unit.
The Japanese car manufacturer Mitsubishi created the 4D56 engine in 1986. After that, it was being finished for ten years by Japanese engineers. To assure regular maintainability, the designers’ primary goal was to boost the power and service life.
The cylinder heads on the 4d56 turbo engine are constructed of aluminum, and the block is composed of cast iron. The configuration is typical. The usage of such alloys enabled the achievement of the lowest mass and provided exceptional thermal stability. Production of the 4d56 turbo engine with a Common Rail fuel system started in 2001. The adoption of new pistons caused the compression ratio to drop to 17. All of these resulted in an increase in torque and power. 4d56 turbo engine
