The largest M54 engine is the M54B30 engine, measuring 2,979 cc (182 cu in). A longer stroke of 89.6 mm is used to boost the capacity (3.5 in). A somewhat more potent variation of the M54B30 was furthermore available for purchase as part of the M Performance package in Canada and the Performance package in the USA. This engine featured modified camshafts and reprogrammed engine management to produce 175 kW (235 horsepower) at 5,900 rpm and 301 newton meters (222 lb-ft) at 3500 rpm. Based on the M52TUB28, the BMW M54B30 engine was developed in 2000 and initially used in the BMW E46 and BMW E39 facelifts. The M54B30 is one of a variety of new motors that also includes the M54B22, M54B25, and S54B32.
The cylinder block is built of an aluminum alloy, similar to the M52B28TU engine, but with cast iron liners. BMW introduced a new range of N52 engines to the world in 2004, which gradually replaced the M54 line. The final M54B30 engine left the assembly line in 2006. But in 2006, one of the most successful BMW N54 turbocharged engines was developed on the M54 platform and was widely installed on vehicles with the 35i index.
Disadvantages of the M54B30 engine
excessive use of oil. Another drawback of the M52TU model. The piston rings, which are continually coking, are the cause. Their total replacement is the only way to solve the issue. You can use M52TUB28 rings. The crankcase ventilation valve must also be seen.
rise in temperature You should check the radiator for pollution first. The cooling system may also have collected air. The pump and thermostat could still be broken. It’s important to examine the radiator cap as well.
faulty ignition system operation. In the TU-modification, the breakdown is the same as on the M52. The hydraulic lifters’ corrosion is the cause. There is a need for replacement with fresh ones.
The oiler bulb was on. An oil pump or oil cup is the cause.
The mortality of the camshaft status sensors, inadequate cylinder block mounting threads, sensitivity to oil quality, a lack of resources, and a short-lived thermostat can all be added to the list of issues. The M54, however, is more dependable than the M52. As a result, the M54B30 engine is dependable, powerful, and suitable for swapping.
