One of Mitsubishi’s finest engines ever was the 4B11T. Following the 4G63 engine’s cancellation due to emissions laws in 2007, it made its debut with the Lancer Evolution platform.
In contrast to the previous turbocharged 4G63 engine that powered all previous models, the 4b11t engine is the first engine in the Lancer Evolution series to use a die-cast aluminum cylinder block. Even with the addition of a timing chain in place of a belt and MIVEC continuous variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust camshafts, the engine weight has decreased by 12 kg (26 lb) when compared to the 4G63 (the 4G63 had MIVEC valve timing & lift switching type on the intake only). 4b11t engine
Compared to the preceding 4G63, a redesigned turbocharger provides up to 20% faster responsiveness at lower engine rpm. Due to the engine’s square bore and stroke, which measure 86 mm each, the 4B11T has a wider torque curve and generates greater torque than the 4G63 at all engine speeds (3.39 in). Redline tachometer hashes begin at 7,000 rpm, with an engine protection fuel cutout (real redline) at 7600 rpm. 4b11t engine
From 2007 until 2016, the company created the Mitsubishi 4B11T 2.0-liter turbo engine, which was used in a number of Evolution X upgrades and charged versions including the Lancer Ralliart. This power unit comes in nine different configurations with varied levels of force.
Instead of the cast iron cylinder block used in the preceding 4G63T engine, the 4b11t engine is the first engine for the Lancer Evolution to use a cast aluminum cylinder block. Even though a timing chain has been added in place of a belt, the engine’s weight has been lowered by 12 kg compared to its forerunner.
Distributed fuel injection, an aluminum block with cast-iron sleeves, a 16-valve DOHC cylinder head without hydraulic lifters, a timing chain drive, and a MIVEC variable valve timing system on two camshafts make up the foundation of each unit in this family’s design. The semi-closed block, the presence of oil nozzles, and the stronger fastening of the crankshaft bearing covers are what set apart the supercharged engine from other engines. Naturally, depending on the version, these machines have an MHI TD04HL or TD05H turbine. 4b11t engine
The casing for the timing chain and the cylinder head cover are both made of aluminum. The 4B11T engine has a stainless steel outlet manifold at the back of the engine, an isometric short bore aluminum intake manifold, and an electronically controlled throttle.
Additional engines in the 4B1 family are the 4B10, 4B11, and 4B12.
On what the engine was mounted:
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X (CZ) from 2007 to 2016; Mitsubishi Lancer 10 (CY) from 2007 to 2015.
The Lancer Ralliart and Evolution X have had a total of nine different modifications:
Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart: 240 horsepower; 353 pound-feet of torque; Evolution X JDM Edition: 280 horsepower; 422 pound-feet of torque; Evolution X USA Edition: 295 horsepower; 366 pound-feet of torque
There were up to 5 different types of these turbo engines, all of which were fairly common in the UK:
GB Edition of Evo X FQ-300: 409 Nm, 300 HP
GB Edition of Evo X FQ-330: 437 Nm, 329 HP
GB Edition of Evo X FQ-360: 492 Nm, 359 HP
GB Edition of Evo X 409 HP, 525 Nm, FQ-400
446 HP and 559 Nm in the Evo X GB Edition FQ-440
Disadvantages of the Mitsubishi 4B11T engine
The most well-known issue with this engine is the piston rings, which frequently break apart and cause the electrodes of the candles to bend and damage the cylinder walls. The turbine is frequently disabled when these rings’ particles are transported to the exhaust. 4b11t engine
The chain on this unit’s atmospheric version lasts from 150 to 300 thousand kilometers without experiencing any issues, but in a turbo engine, its resource is limited, and replacement after a run of up to 50 thousand kilometers is not unusual. Phase regulators, which are highly expensive in this place, must also be changed rather frequently.
Additionally, because this motor cannot withstand overheating, you must frequently replace the drive belt’s plastic rollers. Otherwise, the drive belt may leap off. The gasoline pump and the frequently damaged exhaust manifold are examples of weak areas.
