The Toyota 3UR-FE is a 5.7 L (5,663 cc, 345.6 cu in) V8 gasoline engine with a four-stroke cycle and water cooling from the UR family that has been produced by the Toyota Motor Corporation since 2006.
3UR’s engine block and heads were owned by Toyota and contained most of the North American influence engine ever made. With their Aluminum block construction and variable intake lengths, 3Ur-fe engine is considered one of the most advanced truck engines available to the public.
The new Toyota’s UR family of engines includes the 3UR-FE engine. It is a 5.7-liter V8 with aluminum heads and a block. This engine was developed for use in large Toyota cars and is the UR series’ version with the largest displacement (Tundra, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, and Lexus LX570 models). The 3UR-FE engine successfully took the place of the 4.7-liter 2UZ-FE.
The 3UR-FE features a 90-degree “V” angle, which it shares with other members of its family, which also includes the 1UR-FE/FSE and 2UR-GSE/FSE. The offset between the cylinder banks is 21.0 mm, and the bore pitch is 105.5 mm. All UR engines share a 94 mm bore size. To grow, a 102.0 mm stroke is necessary.
The 3UR-FE heads are made similarly. They have double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder (two exhaust valves and two intake valves), aluminum alloy cylinder heads, and camshaft housings. Roller rocker arms are used to open and close the valves. The lifters on the 3UR-FE engine are hydraulic. For the intake camshafts of the engine, there are two main timing chains.
The secondary timing chain connects each intake camshaft to the exhaust camshaft. Every chain has a chain tensioner, which works with a spring and oil pressure. The engine’s sophisticated Dual Variable Valve Timing technology allows it to regulate the intake and exhaust camshaft angles (Dual VVT-i).
The 3UR-plastic FE’s intake manifold has Toyota’s Acoustic Control Induction System installed in it (ACIS). This technology enables the intake ports’ length to be adjusted in accordance with engine speeds. Linkless throttle bodies with electronically adjustable throttle angles are featured in the 3UR-FE (Electronic Throttle Control System – intelligent).
Only sequential fuel injection (SFI) is used in the 3UR-FE; direct injection is not used. A slot-in type air flow meter that also has an integrated intake air temperature sensor measures the air mass and flow rate. Another ignition system is Toyota’s DIS (Direct Ignition System), which employed a different ignition coil for every cylinder. Iridium-tipped spark plugs with a longer service interval are available for the 3UR.
