The first units of Toyota’s 2AR engine series debuted in 2008, making it a relatively new engine series. Currently, these are common engines that are valued more by owners of Japanese automobiles in the United States and Canada. However, some family members are dispersed over the globe.
Since 2008, manufacturers in Japan and the US have started assembling the 2.5-liter Toyota 2AR engine. Numerous front-wheel drive cars from the company, notably Lexus and Scion, have the motor installed. Dual VVT-i variable valve timing is included in every version of this unit.
Toyota 2AR engine 2.5L Engine
In 2008, the 2AR engine was made available. The 2.4-liter 2AZ engine was to be replaced by it. Despite using less fuel than its predecessor, the engine produces the same amount of power. Engineers used contemporary technologies in the engine development process to reach this achievement. The firm also creates the 2.7-liter 1AR-FE engine in addition to the 2.5-liter engine.
The 2AR engine has an aluminum cylinder block with thin cast iron liners inside, just as its predecessor. For this engine, the block cannot be fixed. Liners cannot be changed. A forged steel crankshaft that has been shifted 10 mm to the exhaust side is located inside the block (an offset crankshaft). The crankshaft is completely balanced and features eight counterweights.
Through a gear inside the crankcase, the crankshaft drives two balancer shafts to reduce vibration. The cylinder head has undergone the most substantial alterations. The DOHC 16-valve head is constructed of an aluminum alloy. There are hydraulic lifters (the 2AZ has not). There are two camshafts and a Dual-VVTi variable valve timing system is installed on each of them. The valvetrain utilizes roller rockers.
A variable geometry intake system is the ACIS, or Acoustic Control Induction System. According to engine speed and throttle angle, the plastic intake manifold adjusts the length of the intake tract in two stages using valves. New 12-hole long-nozzle fuel injectors were added to the fuel system, maximizing fuel efficiency and minimizing harmful emissions. A stainless steel header and catalytic converter are part of the intake system.
In 2016, Toyota created the A25A-FKS, a new 2.5-liter engine from the “Dynamic Force Engines” series, to replace the 2AR-FE engine.
