The Nissan RD engine series is essentially a Nissan rd28 engine design, with the exception that it only has a six-cylinder diesel engine with a single overhead cam. It was joined by the six-cylinder Nissan TD engine and served as the replacement for the Nissan LD and SD six-cylinder engines.

13 valves (two per cylinder). Early information claimed 100 PS (74 kW; 99 bhp) and 18.5 kg/m (181 N; 134 lb/ft) at the same engine speeds since JIS gross rather than JIS net were utilized when the vehicle was first introduced. [1]

From 1987 until 1999, the company created the 2.8-liter Nissan RD28 diesel engine, which was used in numerous well-known Japanese sedans such the Cedric, Gloria, and Laurel. Up until 2009, a cab had an engine modification with an electronic high-pressure fuel pump and the RD28E index. rd28 engine
The RD28T and RD28ETi are two further internal combustion engines in the RD series.
On what the engine was mounted:
Nissan produced the Cedric 6 (Y30) from 1985 to 1987, the Cedric 7 (Y31) from 1987 to 1991, the Cedric 8 (Y32) from 1991 to 1995, the Cedric 9 (Y33) from 1995 to 1999, the Gloria 8 (Y31) from 1987 to 1991, the Laurel 5 (C32) from 1986 to 1989, the Laurel C33 from 1989 to 1993, and the Laurel C34 from 1993 to 1997. Nissan also produced the Patrol 4
Nissan Motor Company produced the Nissan rd28 engine, a 2.8 l (2,826 cc, 172.44 cu-in), straight-six, water-cooled naturally aspirated diesel engine from the RD-family, from 1985 to 1999.
The cylinder block and head of the RD28 are made of cast iron, and each cylinder has two valves and a SOHC (single overhead camshaft) cylinder head. The Nissan rd28 engine has a 21.2:1 compression ratio. The piston stroke is 83.0 mm (3.27 in) and the cylinder bore is 85.0 mm (3.35 in).
Early engine versions generated 94 PS (69 kW, 93 HP) at 4,800 rpm and 177 Nm (18.0 kgm, 130.6 ft-lb) at 2,400 rpm; later versions generated 100 PS (73 kW, 98 HP) at 4,800 rpm and 178 Nm (18.2 kgm, 131.2 ft-lb) at 2,400 rpm.
The monoblock, high-strength cast iron rd28 engine cylinder block includes a seven-bearing support system. The crankshaft of the engine is made of drop-forged steel and has balance weights. The RD28 motor has a single oil control ring and two compression rings. The piston stroke is 83.0 mm (3.27 in), the cylinder bore is 85.0 mm (3.35 in), and the compression ratio is 21.2:1. The crankshaft journal diameter is 54.0 mm (2.13 in), the crankpin diameter is 50.0 mm, and the connecting rod is 140.0 mm (5.512 in) long (1.97 in).
Why a Nissan RD28 engine.
This idea is highly important. There were more available engines, but they were as follows:
controlled by electronics (complicated and expensive)
Insufficient and inadequate for a 1.5 ton midsize sedan (not suitable)
Too tall to fit inside the engine compartment’s hood (too big)
Too raucous and vibrating for me to tolerate (good for a truck maybe)
The price was too much for what I could pay (the Mercedes engine)
several of the aforementioned.
